About Smoker Produce

Our Roots Run Deep:

Started by three brothers and their sister as a way to help pay for college, Smoker Produce is continuing and expanding our tradition of offering quality produce with a direct tie to the farmer. Our family’s farm has been operating in Wanatah since 1943. We are fourth generation farmers helping to serve the local community and provide food for our growing world.

Deb Smoker

Deb oversees the retail side of Smoker Produce. As well, she selects the new varieties we trial every year. Her guidance, patience, and kind words over the years have helped to motivate four kids to take on this kind of venture. She wears many hats at the farm. When pumpkin season is not going on she does the accounting and financial management for G&D Smoker Farm, drives feed truck daily for the cattle, and volunteers for both Salem United Church of Christ and the local 4-H. She holds a Masters Degree in Education from Purdue University and a Bachelors Degree in Child Development and Family and Consumer Sciences from Manchester College.

Jacob Smoker

Jacob oversees the wholesale and cropping side of Smoker Produce. He graduated from Purdue with degrees in Horticulture Production and Marketing, as well as Economics. He spent five years working with grocery stores in the south side of Chicago before returning to the farm. Beyond the farm, Jacob volunteers for both the LaPorte County Fair and the LaPorte County Farm Bureau.

Joe Smoker

Joe has a love for cattle that started from a very young age. After spending time out in the western states on harvest crew moving from Texas to Montana and back again, Joe returned with his expertise to help with the cattle operation. Bonnie, his Blue Roan horse, can be seen gracing the front of The Smoker Farm, welcoming everyone in.

Melissa Smoker

Melissa is currently studying Early Childhood Development at Purdue University. She can be seen on weekends cashiering and helping to pick pumpkins in the field.

Matt Smoker

When not at Mast Service Center working as a Service Adviser, Matt can be seen on weekends helping with farm operations throughout the year.  He has a degree in Animal Sciences from Purdue University.
